42km traffic free cycling and walking trail passing through Newport

The Great Western Greenway passes very close to Anchor house. This world class Greenway is a 42km off-road cycling and walking trail which passes through Newport town. It is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland and follows the route of the famous Westport to Achill railway which closed in 1937. The route offers magnificent views of Croagh Patrick, the Nephin Mountains, Clew Bay and its many islands.
